How do we unearth histories, whether familial, cultural, geopolitical? The five films in Acts of Recovery offer generous observational insights through personal stories that excavate family archives around migration; extract knowledge from local plants with a Oaxaca women’s collective; follow a Palestinian glass blower turning sand into beautiful objects; navigate daily life as artists in Gaza while subjected to genocide; and the destruction of the Indus Delta in Pakistan and how those on the river are saving sacred shrines.

This film engages the intersection of vocality, testimony and visibility through the experiences of Osprey V, a rock band from Gaza that navigates the boundaries of speech under conditions of extreme violence. -Rockbound Museum

Ash Moniz is a transdisciplinary artist working between video, installation, performance, and sculpture. Moniz currently has a survey exhibition of their work on display at the Rockbund Art Museum, and is the drummer of Osprey V.

Osprey V is Palestinian band from the Gaza Strip which consists of self-taught musicians who seek to deliver their message to the world. As Gaza’s first and only rock band, formed in 2017, Osprey V consists of Raji Al Jaru on guitar/vocals, Moamen Al Jaru on bass, and Sa’ed Al Jaru on guitar, with Siraj Shawa previously on keyboard, and Ash Moniz currently on drums. Half of the members were able to evacuate from Gaza to Cairo, where they met Ash and where they have been performing live throughout the past year. The other half of the members were still stuck in Gaza, trying to survive in the face of imminent death. Even while being separated across a border (that prevents anything/one coming in or out) they have been writing and recording songs by sending files back and forth online, with the very limited internet accessible in Gaza. Recently the vocalist miraculously evacuated from Gaza to Jordan, while the bassist is still currently trapped in Gaza.
