Step into a world where plants push through city cracks, history comes alive through stories and stone, and childhood dreams sparkle on the beach. This program brings together short films about nature’s resilience, childhood wonder, moving animals, and the many ways people and places connect across time and space. These stories help us ask big questions about history, nature, and how people connect to the places they live.

This is a kids program.

Canada in the 12th Century

Canada in the 12th Century takes us to Strathmore, Alberta—on Treaty 7 land—where a medieval fair brings people together to wear armour and take part in battles inspired by European history and fantasy. The film also visits Áísínai’pi (Writing-on-Stone Provincial Park), a sacred place for the Blackfoot people. There, images of warriors and battles are carved into soft sandstone rock—a form of storytelling known as petroglyphs. By juxtaposing these two places, the film invites us to think about how different communities remember the past—through imagination, stories, and the land itself.

Jack Parker is a filmmaker from Calgary, Alberta. He makes fiction and non-fiction films on 16mm. Jack is also the Festival Coordinator for the Artifact Small Format Film Festival in Calgary. [↗]
