Step into a world where plants push through city cracks, history comes alive through stories and stone, and childhood dreams sparkle on the beach. This program brings together short films about nature’s resilience, childhood wonder, moving animals, and the many ways people and places connect across time and space. These stories help us ask big questions about history, nature, and how people connect to the places they live.

This is a kids program.

A short film about a little girl named Emma who dances on the beach and dreams of staying six years old forever. As waves roll in and sunlight sparkles, she talks about the magic of being exactly who she is right now. Through simple images and a child’s voice, the film gently explores the feeling of not wanting to grow up—and the beauty of being in the moment.

Kelly O'Brien is a mother and independent filmmaker living in Toronto. Her short diary films have screened internationally and online for NY Times Op-Docs. Her live documentary performance/family slideshow, “Postings From Home,” based on a decade’s worth of Facebook posts, has been featured at documentary festivals throughout Canada, including the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival in 2018. She’s currently adapting it into a feature film with the NFB. She received an MFA in film production at York University and is now, very slowly, pursuing a PhD in Environmental Studies at York University.
