A series of hauntings and open invitations. The five films in the program guide us through the enmeshment of ghostly figures and absent histories that defy fact and fiction, into lingering presences and whispers that manifest themselves on the skin of bodies, places, and the screen.

This film is an invitation for a new kind of horror film. Partially inspired by Freud’s “Uncanny” and the exploration of the etymology of the words ‘heimlich’ and ‘unheimlich’ or ‘homely’ and ‘unhomely,’ as it directly translates into English. ItThis film looks into a familiar haunted house or, rather, a constructed environment haunted by its creator’s ability to remain omnipresent. Designed with dubious goals, this room, or startup screen, is constructed to welcome you to the new frontier of the digital era.

Leonardo Pirondi is a Brazilian-Portuguese filmmaker and artist born in São Paulo, Brazil. His films often inhabit realities similar to our own that create friction between documentary and fiction structures; his filmmaking practice emerges from the fabulation of sociopolitical resonances within culture, myths, history, technology, and image-making.

His films have been exhibited in various festivals worldwide, including in the Tiger Short Competition in Rotterdam, New York, Viennale, Melbourne, Edinburgh, Guanajuato, Slamdance, True/False, Ambulante, Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin, EMAF and others. [↗]
