This program brings together films where forests become musical landscapes, butterfly wings become moving paintings, and everyday moments reveal new patterns and possibilities. Through animation, collage, drawing, and playful experimentation, these works invite us to look closely at the world around us and to discover unexpected stories hidden in small things. The afternoon begins with Cinema of Wonders, a workshop where children and families create their own tiny artworks and see them transformed into moving images during a special final projection.

What if you could see music? Thirteen students worked together to create an animation inspired by Dave Keifer's song “Mushroom Angel.” Using colourful shapes, movement, and textures, they turned sounds and rhythms into a world full of imagination.

Hallie Bahn is an interdisciplinary artist and educator working in non-traditional and expanded animation. Using sculpture, stop motion, and digital 2D animation, her practice looks to dissolve the traditional boundaries of screen-based digital animation and create interactive, physical relationships between the art and the viewer. Bahn’s work has been exhibited and screened nationally and internationally, including at the Weisman Art Museum in Minneapolis, Minneapolis Institute of Art, Soo Visual Arts Center in Minneapolis, Public Functionary in Minneapolis, Marinaro Gallery in New York, Squeaky Wheel Film & Media Arts Center in Buffalo, NY, Center for Mediterranean Architecture in Chania, Greece, and the Museo Memoria y Tolerancia in Mexico City, Mexico. In 2020, she was a grant recipient of the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council’s Next Step Fund. She is currently an artist-in-residence at the Wassaic Project. Bahn is based in Western Massachusetts, where she is the Assistant Professor of Animation at UMass Amherst. [↗]
